ABS / CIGRE

From September 10-12, 2007 Cheboksary was the venue of International Conference “Relay Protection and Substation Automation of Modern Power Systems”.

The conference was organized by Russian National Committee of SIGRE and ABS Holdings in the name of “All-Russian Scientific Research &
Development Technological Institute of Relay Engineering with pilot production” (VNIIR) and supported by SO-CDU UES, FGC and Chuvash Republic Government. Within the frame of the Conference a show of relating production was held.

There are several reasons why the capital of Chuvashia has been chosen as a   venue of the conference.  SIGRE highly appreciate merits of soviet and russian scientists working in this sphere. The second reason – this year commemorates the 100th birthday of the founder of the national relay protection school Atabekov G.I. and the 50th anniversary of the date of publication of his internationally recognized monograph “High-voltage system relay protection theory”.  Historically this town on the Volga river is the russian center of relay protection and automation.

CIGRE (International Council on Large Electric Systems) was founded in 1921 and now it unites about 80 countries.  Russia became  a member of  CIGRE in 1923. Russian membership in the organization is carried out through Russian National Committee comprising RAO UES of Russia, CDU UES, FGC, RAS, a number of regional energy companies and practically all big R&D and electric power design and planning institutes.
